CUTE CAN’T DESCRIBE these illustrations

I love avocados. I get one in my salad almost everyday for lunch. So finding an illustrator who goes by the name Miss. Avocado, proves as no disappointment. Her style is a little bit country, with maybe a hint of steampunk. I mean really, robots and professors in hot air balloons, this has to be on one of my walls stat. I also really love her ACEO’s at a very affordable $10 what’s stopping you from snatching up one of these original little wonders. I can’t wait to see more work from her, she is sure to be going up, up, up.

ORIGINAL DRAWINGS at affordable prices

Littlebighead has been one of my etsy favorites for quite a while. Her drawings are very imaginative, and reminiscent of a fantasy world where animals can talk and ghosts are your friends. A lot of her works is very simple ink illustrations on paper, and while she occasionally does full color works, the black and white pieces are my personal favorites. One of my favorite things about littlebighead’s shop is that the majority of her available pieces are original artwork, so you can feel proud to have an original, and at $15-30 you can have an amazing treasure for your walls, without breaking the bank. Definitely get one of your favorites now because before long she’s going to be HUGE!

THE QUIET REVOLUTION is not so quiet

I love the illustrations by Claire Scully ( The quiet revolution) She has such a great eye and raw talent. I’m always impressed when an artist can excel at more than one drawing style, and Claire does just that. My personal favorites are the pieces in her bejeweled series. The colors are so vibrant and the details are almost unthinkable, such small shapes making up the bigger picture. She has a few of her pieces on pillows and tote-bags up in her shop in case you love them as much as I do. Also be sure to check out her blog for more fun treats.

GET ON THE Andy Kehoe bandwagon

I had some internet problems yesterday so I apologize for the lack of updates. I’m hoping that today will not disappoint. Check out my new favorite artist Andy Kehoe. He sort of has that skateboard poster vibe going on that seems to be kinda of prominent lately  but when you look a little longer there is so much more to his work. To me it seems to be a mix of modern folk art and viking gods. It’s sort of an odd combination, but it feels so right together. And aside from all that who does loves his creatures that are a little reminiscent of the stylings of Maurice Sendak. Along with the fact that he tends to combine leaves and cats in his works, makes his work my new must have.

If you live in the NYC area you should definitely check out his show opening May 16 thru Jun 13, 2009 at the Johnathan Levine Gallery. And if you just have to have one of his limited edition giclee prints, check out his shop and pick one up before it’s too late.

HAIR METAL KIDS and why 1987 rocks

Oh Sean Morris, why did you have to go and draw these amazing little people. Why did you go and capture the essence of everything that screams ROCK, in these little graphite slices of life? Well just in case you love these hair metal kids, as much as I do, check out Sean’s shop Bad Hair Mountain! I think a few of these are going to have to come home with me and go on our new small art wall that is currently in the works. How awesome would these little guys be as gifts for that aging rocker, or best friend that loves to rock out to that Poison album on the way to the bar. Sean is more than just rock and roll, much like the mullet its business up front and party in the back. So check out his other amazing illustrations and his awesomely awesome blog!

NEW PRINTS from jay ryan

I love Jay Ryan. I still remember the first time I saw a Jay Ryan print, it was 2005 at the Renegade Craft fair in Brooklyn. I still regret not buying one that day. I just couldn’t make up my mind. I’ve been thinking it might be time to pick one up. So check out these new prints from the one and only Jay Ryan. I mean seriously how cute is this poster?  It’s pretty hard not to smile at everything on his site.

RENEGADE CRAFT FAIR here we come

I’ve been really excited about the possibility of getting into the Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn this summer. I applied this year with my favorite soapstar (she makes soap she doesn’t star on the now canceled Guiding Light) Michelle from Dirty Loves Clean. The wait was long but last night we found out that we got in! I’m pretty excited, not only is it in my neighborhood, but I’ve always had a little mini-dream of selling there one year. I know some of my other favorite people also got in cakehouseJ Davis StudioiKyotoMiniature Rhino, and quite a few more that are all members of the newnewteam. So if you are in Brooklyn stop by and say hi, June 6 + 7th at McCaren Park.

BEAUTIFUL PRINTS from beau ideal

Have you seen these floral inspired, limited edition prints from Beau Ideal? These 3 color hand screen printed prints are simply stunning. The colors are so vibrant but not in any way overpowering. I’m pretty sure I could look at them all day. I’m hardly ever a fan of the color pink, or magenta for that matter, but when mixed with my favorite shade of blue I find it really hard to say no. The simplicity of these prints is what really stand out to me, they are very simple yet the combinations of shapes together on the page make an anything but boring piece. Beau Ideal is yet another amazing design based in Brooklyn like myself, and I can’t wait to see what she comes out with next.

SCOTT C’s home slice

I’ve been a long time fan of Scott C’s work, a few months ago I wrote about his friends with ET series. Well Scott is back with a new series he is calling “Home Slice.” Wether you are an eskimo, a caveman, or even an blood vessel, everything has a place that it calls home. Scott Campbell gives you a peek into the homes of these often forgotten about creatures.  His watercolor paintings never disappoint, his childlike imagination teamed with years of practice with a paintbrush make for his largest works to date. Even though my apartment already contains 2 prints from Scott, I couldn’t resist Ice House #3 and can’t wait to hang it on my wall. You can check out all of the paintings from the show at Gallery Nucleus’s site, as well as pick up a print or two for your own home slice.

SPRING IS IN THE AIR celebrate with some new art

Oh Rachel T. Robertson, why did you have to come into my life. It’s so hard to resist your pretty pretty paintings and collages. I can think of 10 places in the new apartment your creations would look terrific in. I have the perfect frame already picked out for all of your darling pieces. If you haven’t seen her work, I can’t imagine what you are waiting for. They are sure to at least inspire you on this monday morning, and bring some thoughts of spring along with it. I really wish I had the time to paint more and create something as beautiful as this.
