YOUR FAVORITE CULT MOVIES inspired your favorite artists

There is an awesome show going on over at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles. The concept behind the show, cult films. I have pulled together a few of my personal favorites from the show, in no particular order. If you happen to be in the LA area I would definitly head on over and check this show out, before it comes down on August 8th. You can see the rest of the pieces here.

BRIGHTEN YOUR SPACE with mr. fox and mr. raccoon

I’ve been looking for little pick-me-up’s this week for my walls. Something to put in the office that will doll the place up and make me giggle a bit when I see them everyday. I think I may have found it! These adorable prints from Makibas are just plain fun. I love the vector illustration look to them, bright vibrant colors filling in large flat spaces. I can’t stop smiling when I look at them. She also has quite a few other fun illustrations up in her shop, definitely worth checking out.

MOVE OVER VINYL TOYS wood is back in town

If you don’t think these are adorable I don’t know if we can ever be real friends. These painted wood toys from bubblesinburry are amazing! And don’t worry parents these wood toys are finished in non-toxic materials so it’s okay to let your kids play with them too. I personally would probably just put them on on a shelf and admire them from afar. I love the retro look to them as well, complete with old school tape players painted on their sides. And just in case you haven’t fallen in love with one, they are also open to custom orders, I’m thinking wedding cake toppers!

BEAUTIFUL DIPTYCH wonderfully illustrated

I’ve had the work of Jennifer Judd-McGee on my watch list for quite a while. Today I happened across this wonderful illustration on the front page of Etsy and it just blew me away. I really wish I had this sort of illustration style. Her sensibilities are exactly how imaginary villages look in my head, but I am never able to get them down on paper. Her work is wonderfully detailed and yet simplistic enough to not feel overwhelmed at first glance. I can’t recommend her shop, Swallowfield, enough. A perfect mix of Whimsy and color.

BRIGHT AND MODERN cut paper art

As I’m sure you all know by now, I’m a big fan of cut paper art. I love the complexity of taking large sheets of paper and turning them into intricate works of art. The cut paper works by Jen Stark, are nothing like that. They are big, bold, and chunky. And I love them. I love that they are intricate without being precious. To me it’s a whole new way at looking at cut paper.

TEENAGE MUTANT beanie babies

I just thought these mutant stuffed animals from Lucy Roberts were a riot, and I had to share them with you. These little critters might even go unnoticed in a pile of toys, ala E.T. Artistic statements or playthings for the imaginative child? Either way I can’t wait  to see what creature she concocts next.

DIY KITS to keep you busy this summer

my boyfriend was joking that i need a new project to work on, (I currently have 4 rather large projects going on currently, one of them is of course my product line.) But that got me thinking about all the great things that are available on etsy, and all the wonderful kits you can buy on there to learn a new skill, make something tasty, or just make someone’s day. I used to love getting craft kits to keep me busy in the summer months. So I took a peek at the vast pages of the etsy universe and here are a few of my favorites.

KNICK KNACKS just got awesome

I’ve never really been a big fan of decorations just for decorations. I think things you have in your home should have meaning and a story behind them. With that being said, I ran into these little stoneware creations from iktomi yesterday. Some of course do have deeper meaning, like this raccoon spirit guide, which pretty much sums me up. Are you a sharp, crafty individual who makes the best of every opportunity that comes your way? Then let the Raccoon be your guide. These little hedgehogs are just plain awesome! amazing glazing colors and I love the detail of the patterns on their backs. I could definitely see some of her work on my bookshelf in the very near future. I can’t wait to see more of her work very soon.

I HAVE STRAWBERRIES on the brain

So I had to do a photo-shoot for my new  felt trivets and I thought the best way to show the colors off was to contrast them with a bowl of strawberries. So now I have some great shots of a new product and got to eat some tasty berries once the photos were taken, along with some pretty decent biscuits. We also planted some strawberry plants in a big strawberry pot and put it out on the fire-escape yesterday afternoon. So following suit, I figured I should showcase some of my favorite strawberry inspired etsy finds.strawberry

a. Eco Friendly Grocery Tote Bags from Kid Pirate $15 b. Strawberry bird form Melissa Sue $26 c. Strawberry bag charm from apple cottage company $10 d. Strawberry cream cupcake oil painting from Nizas Art $100
