POP ART that makes me giggle

I love that they are on hot pink backgrounds. I love their goofy grins. Most of all I love both of these movie references! These little original art pieces are by Allyson Gutchell, who’s etsy shop is “turddemon”. I am just awestruck at the vivid color, and the way she has captured the moment in all it’s campy glory!

A TRIBUTE TO JOHN HUGHES at gallery 1988

Today I am waiting patiently for the fed ex truck to arrive with the newest addition to my art collection. As soon as I saw the matching prints, inspired by pretty in pink, illustrated by Jessica Deahl I knew I had to have them. I’m not sure where I’m actually going to hang them yet, but isn’t that half the fun of an art collection?

If you haven’t seen the work in this amazing John Hughes tribute show, hop on over to the gallery 1988 site and take a look. Or of course if you are in california, get in your car and see them in person, then feel free to gloat! There really are some amazing originals like the few above by, John Rozum, Israel Sanchez and Kelly Vivanco. I love tribute shows and gallery 1988 always has the best ones, west coasters I hope you take advantage of that!

MODERN MINIMALISM say that five times fast

Maridee studio is making some beautiful modern etchings. The starkness of the black ink on white paper evokes an almost zen like feeling. At first glance i thought for sure this was the work of a swedish artist, but Marta, the designer behind this work is based in Spain. Her work is so easy to look at, I could picture these prints hanging alone or in little bundles in the bedroom, or really anywhere you need a calming atmosphere. Word on the street is she is also creating some home textiles ( I’m hoping for pillows) that will be in her etsy shop very soon. It’s amazing how just one color can evoke create such a lovely image.

CRISP FALL AIR and a wallpaper for your computer

I posted this last year but I thought I would re-release this fall inspired wallpaper ro celebrate the coolness that has settled in already….

I’m so excited that October is finally here! Fall is my favorite season, hands down! To celebrate I created a little wallpaper download so your computer can enjoy this crisp air even when it’s stuck inside. Download the 1280×800 version or the extra large 1920×1200 version. Happy Fall!

GREMLINS, GOONIES & GHOSTBUSTERS

So I am a little late on posting this but I have just been catching up with whats been going on with my favorite West Coast galleries. Gallery 1988 just had an awesome show called 3G, featuring art inspired by three of my favorite 80’s movies. My favorite peices were these technology pieces by Justin Gray. I would love to have all three of them to hang side by side but right now they are just a tad bit out of my reach. You can check out all of the art from the 3G show here and be sure to take a peek at Justin Gray’s blog for upcoming work from this awesome guy!

ORIGINAL ART from found studio

I had an amazing time at Art Star Craft Bazaar this past weekend. The weather was wonderful, the people were friendly and my booth neighbors were amazing. So today I bring you one of my personal favorite from the festival, Found Studio.

Found Studio is the work of an amazing artist, Kacey Buchanan Stafford. Her mixed media collage paintings come in a variety of sizes and each one is created on a wood “canvas”  so they are ready to hang as soon as you get it home. I can’t even begin to describe the incredible texture each piece has when you get to see it up close, they are just stunning. Found studio also has some really awesome shirts, brooches, magnets and of course the signature ceramic bacon and eggs. I came home with a set of these beauties and Couldn’t be more excited about hanging them on the wall. If you are in the baltimore area and want to check out the work for yourself they will be at the “Pile of Craft” show on June 26.

I NEVER PROMISED YOU a chair garden

I love this instalation by designer Oki Sato (studio nendo). These beautiful ceramic pieces focus on the story of growing furniture. It’s something I have never thought to deeply about, but all furniture pieces evolve from previous works. As the designer states… “A stool grows a backrest, and becomes a chair. When an armrest sprouts from it, it is an armchair. The stool grows sideways, and becomes a bench, or lengthwise and becomes a lounge chair, or even a bed.” I love the simplicity of these building blocks of craftsmanship.

APAK makes me smile

There is just something about the illustration style of apak that always makes me smile. And now they have an adorable mug that could put a smile on your face every morning! I think my personal favorite is the Happy Hermits sculpture. It reminds me a little bit of David the Gnome (which I very much disliked when I was a child) but I think the whimsy just takes me into another land. Definitely check out their full shop for some amazing prints too!
