WONK the name says it all

I wanted to introduce you to one of my favorite furniture designers, WONK. Wonk was founded in 2004 in Brooklyn, NY. Their goal is to produce furniture that combines functionality with design to create an ideal and affordable modern living space. Their pieces are all handmade locally in Brooklyn NY. Their craftsmanship and modern sensibility really make for some fantastic pieces. With 15 different colors and 6 choices of wood there is sure to be a combination that fits your home and decor. I personally have my heart set on the Wilson, in a green and dark wood. If you are in Brooklyn take a trip over to their showroom on N. 4th Street  in Williamsburg, or Jay Street in Dumbo. They currently have a store wide 15% off sale, and don’t worry if you can’t afford a new coffee table, or just don’t have room for one, they have some great affordable wall shelves, mirrors, and other home decor items as well.

FANCY wood coasters

I have been working on this idea for a while and thanks to the good folks over at ponoko, I have some great new products in the shop. These wood coasters are laser cut form Color Rimu wood, with an engraved frame, and a cut out silhouette. I hand drew the silhouettes, scanned them in to illustrator, laid  them out with a fanciful frame and sent them over to New Zealand to be cut. They look so great I am designing a few different ones to add to the series.

A set of 4 casters are available over at my etsy shop, you can be sure these will add a little bit of fancy under that refreshing drink. And maybe even spruce up your table and home.

4 SCORE and 7 years ago

Happy Presidents’ day from Upstate fancy. While I appreciate the 3 day weekend, I also appreciate the fact that we hold elections and do have a voice in choosing our leaders. So this year be thankful for president’s past and present, and the fact that your voice may be small but at least you have a voice. If you are feeling particularly amped up on Obama today, check out these pillows from alexandra ferguson and let your apartment say what you have been chanting for months. Yes We Can.

FLOWERS FLOWERS FLOWERS i made you out of clay

I know what you are thinking.. These flowers are pretty but so what? These beautiful flowers by DK Designs will last forever because they are made out of clay. Oh thats right, these amazing creations are made out of CLAYCRAFT by DECO Soft Clay. Can you imagine filling your home with one of her bright Hawaiian arrangements, they are sure to brighten up even the cloudiest day. And best of all you don’t have to worry about having a neighbor water them when you go out of town, just grab your swiffer duster and a quick swish they are perfect again. DK Designs also makes some of her clay flowers into hair clips, perfect for everyday or that special occasion. So in these tough economic times, you can still have beautiful arrangements year round, without having to go the silk flower route. Add some color to your space and don’t worry about being bad with plants.

YOU CAN DO what??

I am very dangerous in a fabric store. If I like something, I will buy it , and quite possibly never use it. Last year I took a class in textile design and have been wanting to print my own fabrics. I came across this lovely bird fabric designed by Laurie of The Scarlet Fig that was printed using service from Spoonflower. Spoonflower allows anyone to upload their own designs and have them outputted on cotton MODA fabric. AMAZING! I have a few designs I am working on and will be sure to share them when they are done. In the meantime, start designing your own fabric, at $18 a yard, it’s a steal!

TWEET TWEET sew sew sew

I love seeing slices of life frozen in time. I have a fascination with snow globes, and shadow boxes, and pretty much anything three dimensional with a little world inside. WIth this being said it is a shock that i have not seen these tiny wonderlands from Mossywood Lane. The colors are so bright and vibrant and she has a very well balanced design sensibility. I see a story book waiting to happen with these wonderful creations

BEWARE of the sasquatch

I was doing some last minute shopping online last night and came across these pillows from Brokesy. Although I have plenty of pillows in the apartment, I am sort of craving these as well. I’m a big believer that a pillow can change the feeling of any space. Not that I want my living room being a winterous land where at any minute a sasquatch might leap from behind the christmas tree and attack. But they would definitely liven up the place.

HOW OLD was this tree

I really like small things. Things that are adorable and stylish but don’t take up too much room. These hand stitched samplers fit the bill, and get an extra gold star due to their woodland themes. I love all the work from Miniature Rhino, there is something a bit quirky about all the creations but they all have sentimental roots. I can’t wait to see what they have in the new year.

PLEASE SANTA pretty please…

I know I say it a lot but I have to have these vases from Pretty Random Objects.  I have had my eye on them for quite a while and they now have a pre-order for their large squirrel vase. I not so secretly want an entire family of them to live in my apartment but would be very happy with just one to call my own. They remind me of the adorable bird vases from J. Mendicino available at Three Potato Four. Which would look great paired up with the squirrels as well. Maybe this year I will have a very woodland Christmas.
