Loving these photos from a little shop called abby try again. Based in Portland, Oregon Abby takes wonderful photos and loves sharing them with the world. Taken mostly with vintage film cameras, the color in photos just make me so very happy. Take a look at her shop and read a little more about what makes her tick.

ANA BAGAYAN just stole my heart
Beautiful. Stunning. Woodsy. Adorable. Intricate. I could go on and on about the paintings and drawing of Ana Bagayan. When I first came across her work in print magazine my jaw hit the floor. The girls in her paintings are wide eyed dreamers and I can only assume Ana sees part of herself in them. With such raw artistic talent and the ability to tell such a complex story in one single pane, this is the stuff that dreamers are made of. If you happen to be in Seattle between now and Nov 7th, please stop by the Roq La Rue gallery and check out her critters exhibit, and then come back to tell me how amazing her work is up close.

SKETCH LIKE A PRO or at least try
SInce the dawn of the internet, I have always loved those sites where you can sketch or doodle or be artistic in any-wich-way. Well there is a new site out there that blows them all out of the water. Odosketch by odopod. This flash based drawing site has the most realistic drawing mediums i have ever seen. It actually feels like you are drawing with pastels or watercolors. I also love that the background isn’t a plain white box, it’s a beautiful paper texture which makes everything pop a little more. I played around with it a bit this morning, and have to say I will definitely be back, a lot. So I hope you enjoy this little robot I sketched this morning, and then go sketch your own picture and enjoy the amazing work in the gallery.

JOSH BRILL’s modern field guide
Who said nature illustrations had to be realistic? These limited edition prints from Josh Brill have a modern spin on the classic Audubon Society field guide illustrations. Its amazing that a few lines and color fields really do turn into perfect specimens of some classic birds. His unique modern edge to his drawing style is simplistic with out being cartoonish. But you better act fast, these are in limited editions of 50, and at $20 a pop they are going fast.

TERRIBLE YELLOW EYES at gallery nucleus
If you live anywhere near Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, CA you’d be a fool not to go to this show. Terrible Yellow Eyes, opens this saturday, September 19th 2009 at 7pm. It features work from 30 artists paying homage to the work of Maurice Sendak on the book Where the Wild Things Are. We all know and love that book from our childhood and I know I’m very excited about the movie adaptation coming out next month. But in the meantime check out these amazing artists and their take of the infamous characters Maurcie created so many years ago. If you are stuck on the east coast, or anywhere else for that matter, you can view more amazing art that was curated by Cory Godbey at their blog TerribleYellowEyes.
Clockwise from Top Left: Craig Watkins, Bobby Pontillas, Jayme McGowan, Ana Galvañ, Robin Joseph, Nicole Gustafsson.

EVEN MORE AFFORDABLE art
You may remember the post a few months ago about some really incredible affordable art from Trish Grantham. Well she has some amazing new work up in her shop that I think is worth bringing home. I’m all for collecting prints and postcards and the such, but there is nothing like having an original hanging in your home. Imagine a few of these little plaque paintings interspersed with some other small pieces. Make your mini home art gallery a little bit bigger with a piece from Trish.

ADAM BEANE will sculpt your socks off
After I picked my jaw up off the table, I decided I had to share the work of Adam Beane with you all. I know you have seen those action figures and collectable figurines based off popular movies and the like. Well someone has to actually sit and sculpt the original piece that all of those figures are produced from. Adam Beane is one of those guys. I mean seriously look at the detail on Leia’s hair, and that is propped between his fingers in that photo, talk about great things coming in small packages. I am just astounded. It just makes you appreciate things in a whole different light when you see the original piece that was crafted by hand.

MATTHEW SCOTT is my new illustration hero
I love to draw. I doodle whenever I have the time. There are always little characters waiting to get out of my head, but I do it for myself not. I do not consider myself to be an illustrator, but I always had dreams to be one. In part I think that is why I love children’s books. I now how much fun the artist had making these characters come to life, and knowing how much fun children had reading these books and getting lost in these worlds they created.
And that is where Matthew Scott comes into play. He is my newest illustration hero. Although he doesn’t strictly draw children’s illustrations, they are most definitely my favorite. He just completed the cover design for Nickelodeon’s comic book which you can see on his portfolio homepage. Matthew has also opened an etsy shop of his very own with some limited edition prints, in case you have to have one of your very own. This little picture below is from one of his design sheets for his third book about an adventurer of the seven seas ‘Goldfish Rum.’ Be sure to check out his blog as well for some stories and new pieces.

WE GO TOGETHER like mac and cheese?
Loving these little paintings and prints from Bishop Art. Some of “history’s” most famous pairs immortalized on canvas for eternity. Okay so it’s not really that serious, quite the opposite actually. Choose some of your favorite duo’s, maybe mac and cheese, strawberries and cream, bacon and eggs? These little guys would be perfect for that mini gallery you’ve been working on, or even in a kids room. Either way they are sure to put a smile on someone’s face.
