GET ON THE Andy Kehoe bandwagon

I had some internet problems yesterday so I apologize for the lack of updates. I’m hoping that today will not disappoint. Check out my new favorite artist Andy Kehoe. He sort of has that skateboard poster vibe going on that seems to be kinda of prominent lately  but when you look a little longer there is so much more to his work. To me it seems to be a mix of modern folk art and viking gods. It’s sort of an odd combination, but it feels so right together. And aside from all that who does loves his creatures that are a little reminiscent of the stylings of Maurice Sendak. Along with the fact that he tends to combine leaves and cats in his works, makes his work my new must have.

If you live in the NYC area you should definitely check out his show opening May 16 thru Jun 13, 2009 at the Johnathan Levine Gallery. And if you just have to have one of his limited edition giclee prints, check out his shop and pick one up before it’s too late.

HAIR METAL KIDS and why 1987 rocks

Oh Sean Morris, why did you have to go and draw these amazing little people. Why did you go and capture the essence of everything that screams ROCK, in these little graphite slices of life? Well just in case you love these hair metal kids, as much as I do, check out Sean’s shop Bad Hair Mountain! I think a few of these are going to have to come home with me and go on our new small art wall that is currently in the works. How awesome would these little guys be as gifts for that aging rocker, or best friend that loves to rock out to that Poison album on the way to the bar. Sean is more than just rock and roll, much like the mullet its business up front and party in the back. So check out his other amazing illustrations and his awesomely awesome blog!

BEAUTIFUL bud vases

I wanted to leave everyone with something beautiful this easter weekend. Something clean, pretty and reminiscent of spring. These beautiful bud vases from Ryan Takaba, couldn’t be more perfect. They may be a little on the expensive side, but handmade is definitely worth it! Maybe something to keep in mind for your favorite mom this year. Hope everyone has a great weekend. See you on Monday.

NEW PRINTS from jay ryan

I love Jay Ryan. I still remember the first time I saw a Jay Ryan print, it was 2005 at the Renegade Craft fair in Brooklyn. I still regret not buying one that day. I just couldn’t make up my mind. I’ve been thinking it might be time to pick one up. So check out these new prints from the one and only Jay Ryan. I mean seriously how cute is this poster?  It’s pretty hard not to smile at everything on his site.

I WISH I WAS IN kup kup land

I love everything kup kup does. It makes me dream of being a kid and all the wonderful things you can imagine making out of little pieces of felt. Fun little brooches, fantastic pin cushions, and so much more from the land of kup kup. Looking at her shop always brightens my day, especially when its raining, I mean how can you possibly feel down when rain clouds look this cute. I wish I spent more time reaching back in time and exploring the things I used to love crafting with as a kid, maybe something this wonderful might come to life.

RENEGADE CRAFT FAIR here we come

I’ve been really excited about the possibility of getting into the Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn this summer. I applied this year with my favorite soapstar (she makes soap she doesn’t star on the now canceled Guiding Light) Michelle from Dirty Loves Clean. The wait was long but last night we found out that we got in! I’m pretty excited, not only is it in my neighborhood, but I’ve always had a little mini-dream of selling there one year. I know some of my other favorite people also got in cakehouseJ Davis StudioiKyotoMiniature Rhino, and quite a few more that are all members of the newnewteam. So if you are in Brooklyn stop by and say hi, June 6 + 7th at McCaren Park.

BEAUTIFUL APRIL calendars

Why not try some spring cleaning for your computer this week. Maybe take a few minutes and organize what’s cluttering up your desktop. Trust me, if your computer looks anything like mine, It’s long over due for a little cleaning session. Then when your desktop is looking a little too clean, pick out one of your favorite desktop background calendars over at smashing magazine. Maybe you want to Shake up April with Paul van den Dool. Or Bring it to life with Hannah Kunar. Whatever you choose, it’s sure to be something beautiful!

BEAUTIFUL PRINTS from beau ideal

Have you seen these floral inspired, limited edition prints from Beau Ideal? These 3 color hand screen printed prints are simply stunning. The colors are so vibrant but not in any way overpowering. I’m pretty sure I could look at them all day. I’m hardly ever a fan of the color pink, or magenta for that matter, but when mixed with my favorite shade of blue I find it really hard to say no. The simplicity of these prints is what really stand out to me, they are very simple yet the combinations of shapes together on the page make an anything but boring piece. Beau Ideal is yet another amazing design based in Brooklyn like myself, and I can’t wait to see what she comes out with next.

POPSICLE ILLUSTRATIONS make me smile

I’ve been trying to get back into the habit of drawing. I tend to spend too much time in front of the computer and not enough time with a peice of paper and a pencil. So I have started keeping a little stack of blank notecards next to my keyboard and when something pop’s into my head and I have a few minutes, I’ve been drawing my little ideas. So I wanted to share the first 4 in a series of frozen treats. I’m planning on making these little guys into cards and put them up in my etsy shop very soon. Let me know what you think.
