PLACEMATS on the go

I was thinking about Christmas gifts today and did a search on etsy for place mats for my stepmother and her family table. Haven’t really made up my mind about anything but I came across these Montessori inspired children’s mats that are to die for. It would probably be embarrassing to put one of these in your kids lunchbox, but I would probably do it anyway. The country garden mat is my favorite, but there are quite a few to peek at from Owl and Pussy Cat.

SPOOKY scary

Happy Halloween everyone. I have always really liked these unique prints by Steve Morris. His illustration style reminds me of some golden books I read as a kid with a twist on the subject matter. His use of minimal colors that really stand out is what makes his Giclee prints jump off the wall at you. He also has a Graphic novel “Blessed Thistle” published by dark horse comics. Check out his work and take a home a piece for yourself.

THE WIDE WORLD of textiles

Lately I have been working on a lot of repeating patterns at work and for fun. It made me start thinking about textile and wallpaper design and other ways to display the finished work. So I did a bit of research and found a 2 day class right down the street from me at 3rdward. Yesterday was the last class and although I felt teh pace of the class was slow I did learn a few new tricks. The poppy design is probably my favorite creation so far but I am really excited to create more patterns. Maybe I will turn this into a print.

FOXY drawings

I was going through my old etsy favorites today and admiring all of the things that have sold. Some of those favorites have been on there since the dawn of time ( or at least my etsy account ).  Then I came across these wonderful prints from Todd Design. Her style is very unique and her little fox illustrations would be right at home in a quaint little children’s book. I hope one day I will get to read it.

SMALL FEET even smaller shoes

As much as I love having my own apartment, making my own schedule, picking out my own clothes, and feeding myself, today I wish I was 2. My feet are dying to cram themselves into these adorable little shoes from Diddle Dumpling. Her felt shoes and quirky embroidery make the perfect gift for a baby showers, birthday, or just because you can’t buy them for yourself. Hmmm… I wonder if I could convince the dog to wear them.

THE PERFECT YEARBOOK PHOTO and how to get it

Growing up my dad taught in the local high school (I’ll give a Sarah Palin style shoutout to Cape Henlopen High School). My favorite time of the year was when he would get the new yearbook and bring it home. I couldn’t wait till I would be in Highschool and have my very own yearbook. I loved the haircuts, the jordache jeans, the scrunchies, the senior superlatives, but most of all, I loved the senior will’s. I think i started planning my senior will On my first day of high school. I made mental notes of every inside joke, and funny memory so that I could have them immortalized in print for the world to see ( or at least everyone who coughed up $50 for a yearbook). I never imagined I could see what I would look like in yearbooks though out the decades, but today that dream has come true. I think most any of these pictures would look better than the one that has been engraved forever in my final senior yearbook. Now go make your own.
