Hello! I’m Jen Pepper — Welcome to UpstateFancy. I started this blog back in 2008 as a place to share my work, and the work of other amazing and talented independent designers, artists, and all around crafty people, many of whom have become friends over the years.
I live in New England with my husband Matt, and our ridiculous corgi Einstein. I am also the creative force behind Peppersprouts (a line of home goods and accessories inspired by my childhood adventures) and The Chatty Press (a stationery line and design studio). When I’m not busy in the studio, I love reading comics, eating cheese, drinking new beer, re-watching seasons of Parks and Rec and knitting sock.
Sometimes I’m serious, sometimes it’s silly, but it’s always short and sweet. Just like that peice of vegan treats cake I had the other day, $6.50 for a piece of cake? Now that’s upstate fancy.
Up•state Fan•cy [uhp-steyt fan-see] – adjective
1. not exorbitant or extravagant by city standards, however in a rural setting ( like upstate new york) it is in fact, quite fancy
ex: John, wearing his plain white haynes t-shirt, ate his $15 tofu scramble and realized that while he is not fancy by new york city standards, he certainly would be considered “upstate fancy”
2. a wonderful blog dedicated to art, design and other great things that are indeed upstate fancy.
