AND AND… and I want these

Love these two completely different ampersands from Veer and House Industries, respectfully. The ampersand on the left is a lovely wood brooch and the one on the right is a iron bookend. I wouldn’t mind having either one of these graphic design themed lovelies.

ALICE in your own wonderland

Perhaps I am a little late with the Alice themed items but either way I still love these little tables from Thomas Wold. They are available in a coffee table size as well as a smaller end table size. While you’re checking out their shop be sure to browse thr lighting section, some very cool things in there!

FOR YOU OWL LOVERS a movie trailer

I saw this trailer today and had to share it with you! There is a new movie that is based on Kathryn Lasky’s Guardians of Ga’Hoole books. I actually have never read the books but they look amazing. The trailer looks stunning and I am sure this is going to be a tear jerker! Have any of you read these books?

NEIL GAIMAN’S amazing new book

Yesterday when I returned from the bookstore (with a new Penguin Classic) I spent a few moments bookmarking books for my too read list. I also discovered that Neil Gaiman has a new book that is being released tomorrow. Instructions is a picture book collaboration with illustrator Charles Vess which reads as a how-to-survive-a-fairytale manual. Check out this animated trailer for the book from Harper Collins. I think this would make a great graduation gift instead of Oh the Places You’ll Go.

RECLAIMED WOOD mood lighting

I love these mood lights from Tuavus Design. The standard size seems to be about 6″ tall and actually come in a few different styles and colors. I love the concept and the extra fun thing is that to turn off the light you simply lay the object on it’s side. Tuavus Design is also making some very hip USB flash drives as well that would make a great gift for you modern design junkies.

CLASSIC FLICKS and etsy picks

Last night I watched a film that I am embarrassed to say I had never seen before.  The 1953 film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes staring Jane Russell & Marilyn Monroe. I love classic movies, especially those with some comedic drama and a musical number or two. I have picked out a few etsy finds inspired by plot of this classic “love” story.

TOP: FARIBO Plaid Wool Carriage Blanket from Attys Vintage • Vintage Tennis Racquets from Austin Modern • Top Hat from Orphelia

BOTTOM: Kodak Film Canister from Mother Midnight • Diamond Ring from Silverwoods • Yellow Dress from Salvage Life • Pink Gloves from the Pearl Poodle • Photograph of the Ocean Liner lle de France from Unique Store • Vintage Tiara from GottaWannitVintage • Chandelier Pillow from Branch Handmade

Fantasy Freaks and Gaming Geeks

I’ve actually been plowing through the book Fantasy Freaks and Gaming Geeks: An Epic Quest for Reality Among Role Players, Online Gamers, and Other Dwellers of Imaginary Realms for the last few weeks. If you have ever watched all the Lord of the Rings movies back to back, or showed up at the local bookstore at midnight to get the latest Harry Potter book, or maybe you played World of Warcraft a couple times, then this book is for you. The book takes a look at escapism in many forms, from Dungeons and Dragons to Wizard Rock (Think Harry and the Potters).

We follow the author (Ethan Gilsdorf) on his personal journey across continents to reconnect with his inner geek and along the way discover that being a “nerd” isn’t so bad. Ethan’s has shed some light onto this gaming and fantasy culture and has been able to share the stories of all the people he met along his voyage. This book is the perfect mix of astounding facts and a comical glimpse into the lives of ordinary people, who just might live next door to you

ADORABLE fabric decals

Check out these cute resusable fabric decals from Mae (or Mini Mae if you are looking for the smaller versions). I would love to see these jazzing up a dresser, or maybe a really boring cabinet. There are so many designs to choose from, it might be hard to pick a favorite.

KATE MILLER-HEIDKE & her amazing voice

I went to see Ben Folds perform last night at Town Hall in Manhattan. It’s such a small intimate theater and we had just amazing seats so needless to say the show was amazing. I actually didn’t give much thought to who, if anyone, might be the opening act. In this case I was blown away. Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall performed an amazing set. If you haven’t heard Kate sing (I hadn’t until last night) this girl has a set of pipes on her. Her voice is actually very sweet with a wonderful Australian accent and a mix of playful operatic notions come through every now and again. The video above is probably one of my favorite songs that they performed last night ( I do apologize about the ad in the beginning)

FURRY BEASTS from ninon

I found these amazing handmade plush creatures from Ninon while browsing through flickr the other evening. I love the uniqueness of all of these little creatures and can imagine making up stories for each one of them. I really wish I had the skill set to sew imaginary beings with as much personality as these. If you are dying to have one of your own check out her shop.
