I have a soft spot in my heart for coin jewelry. Growing up I remember my dad having some rings made out of coins and he taught me how to make my own with a big metal spoon and a hard surface. But the manipulation of money into wearable art has come a long way. The beautiful pieces made by Stacey Lee Webber are more than just rounding out an otherwise spendable slab of metal. Her work has a sculptural feel to it that turns such an everyday object into something fantastic. It’s so easy to see art in nature, but it takes a different eye to see the artistic value in a penny.

I’ve always admired the unusual jewelry from Pink Crow Studio. It’s one of those shops I always find myself drooling over, my own personal tiffany’s window, so to speak. All of their creations are one of a kind and inspired by found objects. This particular piece contains a vintage french stock certificate which is how the pendant got its very unusual shape. I really enjoy seeing what new curiosities they have in stock. Who wouldn’t want to have one of these original art pieces in their jewelry box.

Oh Abigail Brown, why must you make me swoon so often over all your fantastic pieces. Today in particular I am pining over your small fabric birds. When I was younger my parents had a wooden swan that i would pet everyday, hoping that one day it would come alive. I know I was a strange child. But the point of this story is, I really do think these little fabric birds might come to life if you pet them often enough.

I’m back! After a wonderful relaxing vacation on Mount Desert Island on the Maine coast, I am back in Brooklyn and back to upstatefancy. I did a little bit of shopping while I was in Bar Harbor and came acorss this cute little shop called island artisans, that features only handmade items by maine artists. I had my eye on a lovely Jade ring for a few days (just like the earrings below but in a ring), and when I finally tried it on it fit perfectly and looked amazing on my stubby fingers. The artist behind this miraculous piece of jewelry is Jen Burrall. Based in Portland Maine, Jen’s work is simple and stunning. If you like big stones without the “bling” her designs are perfect for you, a blast of color without the sparkle to blind you. I really can’t say enough about her work, check it out yourself.
